Big Rig Collision Involving Multiple Semis: Two 18-Wheelers Collide Head-On, Third Driver Can’t Avoid Collision | Two Drivers Dead
When a big-rig collision involving multiple semis with another vehicle, the consequences can be devastating. When two semis meet in a head-on collision, though, it’s unlikely there will be survivors. That’s exactly what happened outside of Hico, Texas, in July, 2019.
According to 25ABC News and officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 9 am on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, a Volvo semi-truck traveling northbound on US 281 just north of Hico veered across into the path of southbound traffic. The Volvo collided head-on with another semi-truck. A third semi, traveling southbound, could not brake in time and hit the other vehicles. No other vehicles were involved.
The drivers of the two trucks that met head-on both died at the scene of the crash. The other driver was not hurt. The three semi-trucks all caught fire and burned for a long time. Officials closed the roadway for about 12 hours.
The Cause of the Big Rig Collision Involving Multiple Semis
Though investigators did not confirm any details, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statement in the aftermath of the accident cautioning drivers throughout the Lone Star State to get off the roads if they are impaired in any way, whether due to the use of controlled substances or as a result of fatigue.
