Unprecedented storm drops heavy rain on Dallas/Fort Worth area

Car accidents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area climbed into the hundreds as heavy rain fell on the area on August 22, 2022.

According to ABC News, Eastern Dallas received 15 to 16 inches, which was a flood rating that ranked one-in-a-thousand. As a result of flooding conditions, one woman died in her vehicle.

Details of the damages and car accidents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area

Flood waters swept away a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old woman. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins announced her death on Twitter but did not disclose her identity. As the water receded, city officials discovered her car. The vehicle was 15 miles east of Dallas, near Scene Road Bridge in Mesquite, Texas.

During the overnight period, when rainfall reached three inches per hour, drivers abandoned their vehicles on the roads.

Judge Jenkins declared a state of disaster in Dallas County. In addition, he requested state and federal assistance for those affected.

Previously, the Dallas area was in a state of extreme drought. NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) had assigned it the highest draught category. This lack of rain combined with receiving what would normally be three months of rain in one night led to disastrous road conditions. Numerous car accidents occurred.
